Welcome Back...
This is the last week of Parents attending conferences for students in my classroom. There are new adventures ahead of me for the summer. I am looking forward to a much-needed school break. What are your plans for the summer? I hope it is an amazing trip.

Screen Time
During my days as a teacher, sometimes during my downtime I want to do nothing. I want to relax and see what's going on in other people lives especially on the internet and in social media. I like to also look at the news outlets to see, what else is going on in the world around me. This week I am analyzing and reflecting on how much screen time I use throughout my week and let me tell you, it is a LOT.

My Weekly Screen Time

I have tracked my screen time on numerous occasions, I am noticing that I spend at least 8 hours of my day searching the internet or looking at social media. I am spending a substantial amount of time seeing what others are doing and not focused on things outside of my phone. Like family time, so hopefully that will change.
Since Sunday, I have spent 51 hours and 36 minutes on my, which has increased by 10% since last week. Which is understandable because I have had some downtime with teaching and sometimes it is boring just sitting here. I have also tried to keep of some of my family members through social media because we have had a death in the family.

Most of my browsing comes from different types of social media applications. For instance, I spend most of my time connecting with family members and friends. However, this week was long week of text messaging. I had over 7 hours of texting because I was out of town over the weekend and also discussing a ladies night that I will be hosting on Saturday. I was also talking with alot of my sorority sisters about events that had transpired over my weekend get away, it was not so relaxing at all. I spend too much time on the social media applications, I think I might need to take a break and cleanse my soul. Maybe this will happen for a week, I will try.

For the next category of application usage, I used about a hour of my daily looking at work applications, while at work. We have a messaging application (Slack) that we use to communicate with Assistant Principals and our grade level. For Google Drive, I look up documents to print to the printers from my phone, while also using outlook to check my school email. I spend a pretty good chunk of my week searching for files and using the internet. After my workday ends, I try not to look at these applications.
A few applications that I cannot resist are the food and entertainment applications.

This category is my weakness and I need to stop my shopping addiction and buying fast food to eat at work. I really need to start cooking and stop buying things that I do not need. This will really help me with my financial goals and help me save more money.
There are so many things that I need to take a break from and social media is one of them, maybe one day it will happen.
Technology for me is here to stay, I can do a lot of things from my telephone and I would not have it any other way. It is a means of communication for me.
Until next time...
